Maja Drachsel and Achim Niemann
Achim Niemann (born 1951) from Berlin and Dresden-based painter Maja Drachsel (born 1978) present works in this exhibition that highlight two positions in painting that are not only generationally different.
Niemann's search for the valid image is not a literary one; it is informal, a stringent reduction to the core of the image. Minimalist structures, tones between white and black, muted colors. He invites viewers to join him in his search for clues, to sharpen their gaze for the buried, the disappearing.
M. Drachsel's painting, on the other hand, is narrative and poetic, in which color, form, and figure are of particular relevance. This painting ranges from explosive to quiet artistic engagement with personal experiences and universal themes, often emerging from the subconscious.
