Après Church at the KunstHofKöpenick: Jens Syllwasschy & Kumpanen

Originally from Rügen, Jens has visited the KunstHofKöpenick several times and has fallen in love with the place. Now he’s bringing his mates along to play!

Jens Syllwasschy has been playing the guitar for as long as he can remember – and actually even before that. Music has never been an afterthought, but always a compass, a driving force and a tailwind.

Shaped from an early age by a wide variety of sounds, styles and trends, he continues to this day to draw on the full diversity of what music can be – and what it may yet become. Rather than sticking to genre boundaries, Jens has made it his mission to create his own lyrics and melodies.

Honest, edgy, poetic, sometimes quirky, often tongue-in-cheek – always with his own distinctive style.

Among other things, we can look forward to a musical exploration of change, moods and the cycles of life – at times as rough as an autumn storm, at times as light as a summer breeze, at times as contemplative as winter and then, once again, blossoming like spring.

Travelling alone, but never lonely: over the years, a steadily growing team has gathered around him – his companions. Different musicians, different instruments, a shared vision.

On stage, this results in a vibrant blend of diverse genres – without dogma, without a safety net or a fallback plan. The Kumpanen describe it themselves as: subcultural ‘Jens-style’ lyrics set to music.

Joining him on stage in Köpenick as his Kumpanen:

• Matze on harmonica and backing vocals
• Olli on bass
• Tina on cajón
• And, of course, the captain of the whole lot
• Jens on guitar and vocals

With charm, humour and a good dash of sailor’s tall tales, he’ll be guiding his audience through the Sunday.

It’s all about having fun – for the band, for the audience and for anyone who fancies going with the flow. In short: cast off, prick up your ears – and you’re welcome to come along for the ride.
