Intergenerational Listening Party by Sandhya Daemgen

What happens when we listen together? With “What’s That Noise?”, artist Sandhya Daemgen invites everyone—across all generations—to an atmospheric listening party as part of “20 Years of Radialsystem.”

She weaves together live music, participatory moments, and stories and recordings by selected FLINTA* artists from the past. Together, we’ll discover, honor, and celebrate musicians who have pushed artistic and social boundaries and whose stories deserve to be heard.

This special cross-generational edition of “What’s That Noise?” is an embodied and participatory listening experience for everyone, in which music and musical stories open up space for imagination, connection, creativity, and collaborative expression.

The listening party guides the audience through various genres, musical and dance traditions, and introduces different instruments. With guest musicians and members of the Embodied Percussive Choir, the performance brings a different musical history to life. Small moments of participation arise, inviting attendees to experience music together and to reflect on those who came before us, as well as on the future they wish to shape together.

“What’s That Noise?” was founded in 2015 by Sandhya Daemgen and has since taken place in various formats at different venues and at festivals for art, music, and performance.
