Recent painting from Berlin
Painting has always been a tradition in Berlin. Whilst it was declared dead in other places, here people simply carried on painting – whether in the divided city or after the fall of the Wall. Even in the crisis-ridden 2020s, the exploration of colour, surface and space remains relevant as a means of taking a stand on the world.
The exhibition follows on from the 2022 show ‘Paint it all!’ and presents new acquisitions to the Berlinische Galerie’s collection. Works by eleven artists from the last twenty years set new accents, broaden the spectrum and demonstrate once again just how diverse, confident and international art from Berlin is today.
