A central work in the exhibition is *Fußball* (Football) from 2026. The badly damaged ball is barely playable any longer, yet instantly recognisable. For Winkhaus, it embodies a fusion of community, play, utility and transience. Her succinct description of it is: ‘lived, loved’.
The forest and animals such as deer and pigeons are also recurring motifs in her work. Winkhaus is particularly interested in the pigeon as an example of shifting social perceptions: once a prized breeding and status animal, it is now, in many places, one of the most devalued urban animals.
Winkhaus constructs her visual worlds from countless individual photographs. Every detail is photographed separately and then digitally assembled into a single work. With a touch of humour, she describes this working method as ‘Analogue AI’.
HM4T 4 EVR explores how ‘home’ can remain a subject for discussion as a personal and cultural experience without being immediately co-opted for political purposes.
