Insults are like an illness which, nevertheless, is a boon to the soul. Things must not get any better or more bearable, because otherwise one would have to face oneself. Surely someone must be to blame for the fact that I don’t get a look-in.

Heinz Bude talks to Marlene Knobloch about the ‘eternal scapegoat’ who is responsible for the wounded soul finding no peace.
MARLENE KNOBLOCH, born in 1994, worked at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and studied literature in Berlin and Tel Aviv before attending the German School of Journalism. She wrote for Seite Drei and the arts section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung and is now an editor in the arts section of Die Zeit. Her book *Serious Shit* was published in 2023.
