Evidence of military history
Built in the 19th century, the drill hall was constructed for the purpose of “protecting the soldiers’ smart Prussian uniforms from the rain”. Today, it houses an exhibition of historic cannons, including ceremonial guns from the 16th century.
The arms collection also serves as a reminder that Spandau has been Prussia’s armoury since the 18th century.
Not far from the citadel, rifles and artillery were once manufactured and gunpowder produced. During the First World War, up to 70,000 people worked here in the armaments industry.
