A club performance across generations

A performance project by Kulturhaus Schwartzsche Villa with the Syndikat Gefährliche Liebschaften and TanzTangente.

For 13 years now, the lights have been out in one of the city’s most beloved clubs. Yet whenever the name POP INN is mentioned, eyes still light up. From 1960 to 2013, Berlin youth culture was written here. For many, the club was their first love. Jazz, beat, disco, hard rock, pop, and R&B – Pop Inn reinvented itself time and again over the decades.

The constant: in this city-run youth club, partying for a young audience was officially possible. Today, the building stands empty. The art collective Syndikat Gefährliche Liebschaften brings the old neon sign from Ahornstraße 15a a few meters further, into the studios of TanzTangente. There, together with longtime and new fans of this place, we bring the legendary youth disco back to life!

We invite everyone to experience with us what made Pop Inn a legend – and how this legend can be carried forward. In our newly imagined club space, generations, music, dance styles, and perspectives come together in a shared celebration.

The youth of the past meets the youth of today. Disco meets TikTok. Memories of good times meet visions for vacant spaces. And as always, the neon lights come on far too soon.

Alongside the performance, you can look forward to a surprise bar in the TanzTangente courtyard, with conversations and a rotating cast behind the counter, as well as an exhibition featuring interviews you can listen to.
