The starting point for this collaborative work by Bobi H. Stojaković and Marta Marja Ruszkowska was the idea of exploring amateur dance in films.

The two artists drew inspiration from Polish and Yugoslavian films from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, particularly from films of the Nouvelle Vague and the post-Nouvelle Vague era, which are surreal and dreamlike and deal with the aftermath of World War II, particularly the interludes featuring spontaneous dances at parties, celebrations, or ceremonies. In these works, dance creates a space in which one can lose oneself both as a dancer and as a viewer. What is interesting here is the idea of a ghostly dance or a driving force of dance that cannot be explained and that, unlike trance, is not spiritual.

The “neworks” series will continue in 2026 under the motto CONTINUING THE WORK. The aim is to give artists the opportunity to continue research processes they have already begun, develop them into a full-length performance, and present them at the ada Studio.
