100 Years of the Berlin Radio Tower in 2026
A glass-enclosed elevator takes visitors to the top in just 33 seconds.
Standing 147 meters tall and weighing around 600 tons—about 400 tons of which is steel—the Berlin Radio Tower is a true heavyweight with a surprisingly slender base: Its footprint measures just 20 by 20 meters.
The observation deck is located 126 meters up, and the restaurant is at 55 meters. If you want to go all the way to the top, take the glass elevator—it shoots up to the platform at 4 m/s in just 33 seconds, giving you a little thrill in the process.
The Berlin Radio Tower was designed by Heinrich Straumer. It’s no coincidence that its design resembles the Eiffel Tower—the Parisian landmark served as inspiration for its Berlin counterpart.
