Full steam ahead through the Wuhlheide
To kick off the anniversary weekends on May 2 and 3, guests can look forward to a full-speed ride through Wuhlheide.
This weekend, two steam locomotives will be running through Wuhlheide: “Merapi” and “Klaus.” These two historic locomotives make the special service a unique experience for railway enthusiasts of all ages.
“Merapi” is over 100 years old, was built in Hanover, was later used on a sugarcane plantation on the island of Java in Indonesia, and has been operating in Wuhlheide since 1992.
“Klaus” was the first steam locomotive in Wuhlheide; it was built for the rubble railway after World War II, was presumably in service in the Dresden area, and has been running in Wuhlheide since 1987.
Trains will run on Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:40 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on both days. On Sunday, service ends at 5:00 p.m. A round trip takes about 35 minutes.
Tickets cost €6.00 for children and €8.00 for adults.
The Wuhlheide Park Railway thus offers a family-friendly destination with a unique experience—not just for train enthusiasts, but for anyone who wants to discover Berlin from a different perspective. In addition to the ride, there are other exciting highlights for families and visitors throughout Wuhlheide.
