The Terracotta Army | Exhibition Berlin

Since 22 August 2026, visitors to Berlin-Johannisthal have once again been able to immerse themselves in the world of China’s first emperor. The exhibition ‘Terracotta Army – The Legacy of China’s First Emperor’ combines a multimedia introduction with an impressive display of 170 exhibits. An army for eternity.

More than 2,200 years ago, Qin Shi Huang Di, the first Emperor of China, had a vast mausoleum complex built. This includes the world-famous Terracotta Army: an army of warriors, horses and chariots, created to symbolically accompany the Emperor into the afterlife. The entire mausoleum complex covers around 56 square kilometres.

The Berlin exhibition brings this extraordinary chapter in cultural history to life in a clear and accessible way. 150 artistically detailed, true-to-life terracotta figures depict infantrymen, archers, cavalrymen, officers and generals. These are complemented by horses, chariots, models, informative graphics, texts and film clips about the burial site, the formation of the army and the history of its discovery.
