Aseli
Mousy, for a century now
The sweetest mice in the capital can be found at the family-run Aseli factory. Here, simple ingredients and cute shapes are used to produce products that are guaranteed to bring a smile to the faces of young and old alike.
Now in its third generation, the marshmallows from the Aseli factory in Reinickendorf are enchanting the capital's palates. Production continues as it did a hundred years ago: Water and sugar are boiled in copper kettles, then tried and tested secret ingredients are added and out comes the mouse. The name Aseli can be traced back to the visionary and founder of the manufactory: In 1921, Alfred Seliger only had sweets on his mind and supplied Berliners young and old with homemade sweets from his handcart. The unsurprising bestseller? The marshmallow mouse.
Today, the mice are available in large, small and giant, in classic sugary or liquorice or cherry-banana flavours. Scary mice, crocodiles, Berlin bears, breasts and butts are also among the moulds with which Aseli has perfected the art of marshmallowing. Up to one tonne of sugar animals are produced every day. No artificial additives are used in the production process. All products are also gluten- and lactose-free and are decorated and packaged by hand.
Since 2017, the foam animals have had their own boutique in Hackesche Höfe, where Aseli's sugar creations are available in every imaginable colour and shape. Just like back then, you can also put together your own colourful mix in the so-called Schnuckeltüte.
