Tanzfabrik Berlin is all about contemporary dance as if it was a brand-new concept in Germany. To this day, Berlin remains a centre for modern dance.
For more than 30 years, dancers have been producing, rehearsing, and performaing at Tanzfabrik Berlin. There are now four dance studios with studio stages in Kreuzberg and at a second location in Wedding.
Tanzfabrik was founded in 1978 as a centre for contemporary dance at a time when such a genre did not exist in West Berlin. It was responsible for spreading this style in West Berlin and across West Germany.
Tanzfabrik Berlin focuses on themes and issues of contemporary dance. It is a place where productions are created and performed. As a school for contemporary dance, it has earned a reputation on the national and international dance scene.
Offerings at Tanzfabrik Berlin
There are regular dance classes, intensive workshops for beginners and professionals, as well as the 10-month Dance Intensive training programme. There are dance classes for children and adults so that everyone can learn to dance.
Besides the numerous dance classes, Tanzfabrik but also offers health and prevention courses such as yoga and Pilates.
Particularly important for the Tanzfabrik is the promotion, presentation, and spreading the message about contemporary dance in all of its facets to the public. Beyond dance itself, the Tanzfabrik also addresses body image and its role in our society. Various approaches, whether choreographic, performative, or discursive are tried.
