The duo Ablabuda blends musical traditions from two regions: the Georgian Caucasus and the highlands of the Andes.

Manana Klein, from Georgia, brings authentic melodies from her homeland, whilst multi-instrumentalist and half-Bolivian David Beyer enriches the soundscape with his Andean folk instruments.

Their music is characterised by traditional folk songs, urban songs and rhythms from Latin America – handmade, lively and full of character. They bring Georgian folk songs to the stage – sometimes solemn and polyphonic, sometimes light-hearted, sometimes profound. These are complemented by urban songs from Tbilisi, which recount everyday situations with humour and melancholy. Latin American pieces round off the programme with their own rhythms and colours.

Instruments familiar throughout Europe, such as the guitar and the transverse flute, meet stringed instruments such as the panduri and chonguri from the Caucasus, as well as the charango, ronroco and cuatro venezolano from South America, and numerous flutes from the Andes, such as the quena, sikus, rondador and moseño. In this way, we create a sonic space in which different musical roots enter into dialogue.

Ablabuda stands for music that transcends boundaries: personal, intimate and driven by the joy of singing and making music together.
