andcompany&Co.
andcompany&Co. continue the story of Heiner Müller’s *Die Umsiedlerin oder Das Leben auf dem Lande* (*The Resettler or Life in the Countryside*) and turn agriculture into the setting for a new class struggle over land, crops and food.
In “The Resettlers: Tilling Against the Anthropocene”, andcompany&Co. continue Heiner Müller’s 1961 GDR scandal play – written in the year the Berlin Wall was built and the first manned space flight took place. Today, the Earth is under massive pressure from intensive agriculture, global warming and species extinction. At the same time, humanity dreams of colonising other planets. A crew of hardy habitat dwellers stands their ground: “We’re staying here!” They tend to plants, nurture the soil and fight against the poisoning of the biosphere.
In this final phase of the PLANETKULT series, things get messy: patriarchy finds itself trapped in a self-watering hermetosphere, queer vegetable patches spring up, and millet is revered as a superfood. For in the 21st century, the class struggle is fought over calories and proteins. It is time to debate collectivisation once again.
The PLANETKULT series is an artistic-scientific experiment in three phases: Dialogue, Field Academy and Theatre.
Art and science come together in these different formats: Sophie von Redecker, a farmer, scientist and activist, and the biologist Ulf Soltau (“Gardens of Horror”) will discuss on 5 December: How are new forms of coexistence between humans, other species and their environment possible?
