Old and new Sephardic music
Davagariko perform traditional Sephardic songs as well as newly composed songs in Ladino. Ladino is the language of the Jews who were expelled from the Iberian Peninsula in 1492. Some of the songs about love, homesickness, hope and longing also date back to the Middle Ages.
However, the band’s programme also features more recent songs from the countries where Jews later settled – such as the Balkans or North Africa, where local influences have in turn left their mark on their music.
An unparalleled wealth of rhythms and sounds featuring Ares Gratal (vocals and tenor saxophone), Ira Shiran (accordion), Péter Somos (percussion) and Matt Adomeit (double bass).
