Hildegard Knef was full of zest for life and creativity; she was the most versatile of all the great divas. Her journey from actress to songwriter and singer, and her constant moving between continents, made her an early jet-setter.
She has left us a wonderful collection of her own chansons, which offer deep insights into a sensitive yet strong soul.
Velia has done a great deal of research and, as a Berliner with a wealth of life experience, is able to interpret these chansons beautifully without imitating Hilde.
The programme features Cole Porter numbers alongside Hilde’s evergreens, as well as lesser-known, exquisite gems.
As colourful as life itself.
