Since 2017, the festival has been bringing together artists and productions that explore the themes of freedom of movement, displacement and settlement. At a time of social division and global crises, it is clear that freedom of movement directly affects young people.

In 2026, therefore, the stage will belong entirely to the young CABUWAZI artists. Their voices, their views on freedom of movement and their perspectives will be at the heart of the
festival and create a space for discussions on mobility, power, justice and belonging – from the perspective of the younger generation.
Since 2024, FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT has been part of ‘Zeit für Zirkus’, a nationwide festival held as part of the international La Nuit du Cirque. The diverse programme includes performances, premieres, workshops, discussion forums, parties and online events. The festival sees itself as a platform for contemporary circus and social dialogue – a space where art becomes a language and movement becomes a stance.

PROGRAMME
4.00 pm | ‘GemEinsam’
This circus production by the youth group at CABUWAZI Tempelhof explores the desire to be self-determined whilst at the same time becoming part of a community. It addresses themes such as closeness and distance, acceptance and exclusion, and expressing oneself whilst giving others space. In their piece, the young people present personal artistic visions of freedom through innovative and diverse circus disciplines such as the Chinese pole, loop, straps, hoop diving, aerial silks, aerial ring, tightrope, dance trapeze and contortion.
The CABUWAZI Tempelhof youth group consists of 18 young performers aged between 13 and 21. They are characterised by their diversity and variety – their motto is solidarity.

7.00 pm | Open Stage
Young performers aged between 18 and 27 from circus schools across Berlin were invited to apply with a solo, duo or group circus performance on the theme of freedom of movement. The Berlin Young Stars will present the audience with a diverse, explosive and artistically innovative evening’s entertainment.

9.30 pm – 11.00 pm | After-show party
Following the two circus shows, CABUWAZI Tempelhof will be transformed into a party venue. Together with the Young Stars, we’ll be celebrating the spirit of FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT. The after-show party is free of charge and no booking is required.
