Concert recording by the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra
21 March marks the end of the ‘Schallbrücken’ season at the Zeiss Großplanetarium with the season’s opening concert from 13 September 2026 at the Berlin Philharmonie.
Edison Denissov’s ‘Peinture’ for large orchestra offers the opportunity to explore correspondences ‘between abstract painting and music’ (Edison Denissow, 1970) – 25 works from the complete oeuvre of the painter Daniel Richter will accompany the major concerts of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra during the 2026/2027 season on a visual level, including on posters and in the programmes. We will then hear the delicate ‘Symphony No. 2’ by the Jewish-Romanian composer Anatol Vieru, who would have turned one hundred in 2026 – the movements of the symphony are titled ‘Heart Palpitations’, ‘Psalm’ and ‘Unbridled Melody’.
It cannot sound opulent enough in Sergei Rachmaninoff’s ‘The Bells’, a symphonic poem for soprano, tenor, baritone, choir and orchestra based on a poem by Edgar Allan Poe. The stages of human life, from birth through marriage and the storms of life right up to death, find their echo there. The soloists are Galina Cheplakova (soprano), Anton Rositskiy (tenor) and Vladislav Sulimsky (baritone); you will also hear the Berlin Radio Choir, rehearsed by Gijs Leenaars. Vladimir Jurowski conducts the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra.
The programme features a recording of the season opener from 13 September 2026 at the Berlin Philharmonie.
The Spatial Sound System in the Planetarium Hall, with its 49 loudspeakers and 4 subwoofers, combined with the fascinating starry sky created by the Zeiss projector, offers a truly overwhelming experience for both the eyes and the ears. Look forward to breathtaking sounds beneath the marvellous starry sky!
A collaboration with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and Deutschlandfunk Kultur.
