Holger Franke and Martin Recken, who live in the Kungerkiez and are determined to celebrate Neruda’s poetry with people from here and nearby, invite you to an evening of peace and joie de vivre.

Martin plays the cello, the oud and plays with the Spanish language. Holger Franke recites the translations (authorised by Neruda) by the poet Erich Arendt.

But now, after 60 years, he feels the time has come when he can depart with a clear conscience. Everything and everyone is taken care of. So he sits alone in his secret refuge, putting the finishing touches to his affairs, when suddenly the doorbell rings…

In this one-act play, the author Michael Reinhold Schmitz explores our relationship with death and, of course, with life, for one cannot exist without the other. In doing so, he touches upon uncomfortable questions, yet never in a didactic or admonishing manner, but always in a spirit of inquiry and full of hope. And amidst all the fear with which we often face death, a great deal of love creeps in almost unnoticed.
