Scott Matthew: Anecdotes and Antidotes

Scott Matthew has close artistic and personal ties to Berlin and its creative scene. Both his private and professional life are inextricably linked to the city on the River Spree. Berlin, its history and its residents have inspired him to write several songs. Rosenthaler Platz also provided a very special highlight for Scott. There, in a small recording studio, he recorded a duet for his cover album together with his father, Ian Matthew. To accompany their son on tour, his parents had travelled from Australia and spent some unforgettable days with him in the capital. And it is there that he will celebrate his stage anniversary in September 2027 with three different evening programmes under the theme ‘Anecdotes and Antidotes’.

Anyone who has ever seen Scott Matthew perform live knows that his shows thrive on contrasts. Now, the Australian singer-songwriter invites you to a trilogy of melancholy.

Hardly any other singer-songwriter transforms world-weariness and longing so elegantly into pure beauty. Yet his sadness is never overwhelming – rather, his songs are a comforting balm that offers hope, has a healing effect and is the ultimate antidote to loneliness.

And between the deeply sad, bittersweet and melancholic songs, he almost always lightens the sombre mood with intimate, tragicomic, humorous and wonderfully honest anecdotes.

On the first two evenings, Scott Matthew will delve deep into the multifaceted repertoire of his original songs. Two evenings, two different set lists, both centred on his moving original compositions: milestones, classics and hidden gems from his six studio albums. And perhaps he’ll even surprise his audience with one or two new, previously unreleased songs.

The third evening is themed ‘Covers Only’ and will form the emotional finale. Scott Matthew will thus showcase the full breadth of his artistry. A show consisting exclusively of his brilliant cover versions, made famous by his two cover albums ‘Unlearned’ and ‘A Small Conduit Of Great Affairs’, as well as by his legendary encores.

On all three evenings, Scott Matthew will be accompanied on the instruments by his long-standing fellow musicians Marisol Limon Martinez (piano), Sam Taylor (cello), Jürgen Stark (guitar) and Gary Langol (guitar, bass).
