A Conversation with Bea Davies, Ulli Lust, Mawil, and Lias Sinram
Whether author-driven comics, graphic biographies or comic reportage: visual storytelling has a long tradition at the Weißensee Academy of Art, Berlin. Generations of female artists have studied here and are now shaping the comics scene far beyond Berlin.
For the discussion evening ‘Berlin Visual Stories’ on 2 November, graduates Ulli Lust, Mawil, Beatrice Davies and Lias Sinram were invited to talk about the conditions and historical factors that have contributed to the development and consolidation of this tradition of visual storytelling. What is the reality of working life like for comic artists, and are there connections between the different generations of comic artists?
- The evening will be moderated by cultural journalist Gesa Ufer
