DAGMAR ZUNIGA

The Nicaraguan-American artist Dagmar Zuniga creates music that feels both intimate and expansive: her songs float like disrupted signals, carried by harmony, tape hiss and a keen sense of touch. Her debut solo album “in filth your mystery is kingdom / far smile peasant in yellow music” – written and recorded in New York, Norway and Athens, Georgia, over a period of five years on her long-standing companion, the Tascam 424 – was uploaded to Bandcamp and YouTube in January 2025 and quickly racked up over two hundred thousand views, as well as attracting the attention of artists such as Mount Eerie, who invited her to tour with them that same summer. Together, they present softly sung songs that blend guitar, homemade instruments and simple electronic elements with vocal performances that are by turns harmonious and out of tune, yet always spot-on in pitch. They transform something authentic and visceral into something that shimmers and, at times, screams into a pillow. Expect uplifting grunge, retro-inspired folk, playful drones and disarming lyrics in Dutch, French and English. Never stuck in a cassette loop, they sing about the saw in the shed and pay respectful tribute to … let’s see …
