The Serengeti comes to Berlin: to mark the 75th anniversary of the Serengeti National Park, the UNION cinema in Friedrichshagen is dedicating two events to this famous natural area and the conservation of African wildlife.

On 17 November 2026 at 6 pm, the Oscar-winning 1959 documentary ‘Serengeti Must Not Die’ by Bernhard and Michael Grzimek will be screened. The film is regarded as a significant contribution to the study of animal behaviour and documents the Serengeti as an extraordinary habitat.

This will be followed on 29 November 2026 at 11.00 am by a matinee with the wildlife artist Reiner Zieger. He will present his illustrated account “Endless Herds – A Wildlife Artist in East Africa”, in which Zieger shares his impressions of the Great Migration and draws on his decades of experience as a wildlife artist.

Both events combine documentary film with artistic observation. The film screening and the book event are organised by the Leibniz Society of Sciences in Berlin, the Association of Supporters of Berlin Zoo and Tierpark, and Natur+Text GmbH Rangsdorf. The events will be moderated by Prof. Dr Ekkehard Höxtermann.

Author: Reiner Zieger, born in 1939, studied scientific illustration and worked for decades as an animal illustrator for Tierpark and Zoo Berlin. In 1981, he travelled to East Africa for the first time and documented the Great Migration in the Serengeti through his drawings. This gave rise to the idea for his book *Endless Herds – An Animal Illustrator in East Africa*.
