Heritage-compliant restoration work at the Old Twelve Apostles Cemetery

The Old Twelve Apostles Cemetery (Alter Zwölf-Apostel-Kirchhof) in Schöneberg is considered one of Berlin’s most significant cemeteries from a cultural-historical perspective. The wall tombs, built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, are impressive examples of the magnificent funerary culture of that era.

Preserving and restoring these historic monuments poses a major challenge for the cemetery. Safeguarding this cultural heritage is only possible through grave sponsorships and funding from the German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD), in cooperation with the State Office for Monument Preservation. The DSD is currently involved in the restoration of four adjoining wall tomb complexes. Previously, funding from the DSD had enabled the restoration of the Hammacher wall tomb.

A guided tour with Bertram von Boxberg will focus on the heritage-compliant renovations carried out in recent years and on the project currently underway.
