The role of the facilitator shifts towards that of a host, inviting participants into a collaborative, reciprocal process – a ritual of care and listening. Building on a conscious approach to time – one that recognises that both pasts and possible futures coexist in the present – Kéwè K Bonono extends this awareness to the body, with its inner and outer journeys, and to the land, with all that it contains and preserves.
‘Hide and seek’ honours the diverse and varied historical and material relationships in which people live, as well as the new contexts and social relationships they create together. It recognises that these constitute only part of a greater consciousness that encompasses both living and non-living entities.
It is precisely from this that the most sacred practice arises: the passing on of knowledge. As a consequence of alienation under capitalist hegemony, people carry within them a deep sorrow for all the knowledge that has been lost or concealed.
Through embodied movement and the casting of spells, they can reawaken their senses and resist that survival instinct which conditions them to become numb.
Statement: The project stems from the memories that Kéwè K Bonono carries within him, as well as the knowledge passed on to him by his grandmother, Owo.
Participation is open to anyone willing to play and to take up space with their body and voice – all levels are welcome.
