The future? Often, that’s little more than planning ahead for the afternoon of the day after tomorrow. In a world that’s accelerating at an ever-increasing pace, looking ahead – far into the future – seems as unrealistic as it is urgent.

A somewhat outdated means of planning, controlling and shaping the future is the manifesto – a political, aesthetic, critical, constructive or destructively fervent text setting out a possible blueprint for a world that is to be different from the one that currently exists. What do the manifestos of the past tell us about our present – and what all-encompassing visions exist today for the tomorrow that is yet to come?

Tom Kühnel and Jürgen Kuttner are a duo of specialists in two senses: both in manifestos and in the theatrical form of the revue. At the Deutsches Theater, they adapted Valerie Solanas’s ‘SCUM Manifesto’ with *Feminista, Baby*, and with *Capitalista, Baby* and *Hasta la Westler, Baby*, they created evenings exploring East-West German memory and undertook a journey into the heart of capitalism respectively.

Now, drawing on texts ranging from Karl Marx to the Unabomber, John Kaczynski, they are once again turning their gaze to society as a whole: which ideas are grand enough to shape an entire world, even the future beyond it, and is it even possible any longer to draft a blueprint for such a complex whole from a single pen?
