The ‘Hapticality and Sense-making’ workshop invites participants to explore how movement and sound can help us to perceive and respond to one another.

Through structured improvisation, participants develop an understanding of ‘hapticity’ – a sense of experiencing the world through others – as well as of ‘the perception of a world populated not by things but by forces, not by subjects but by agents, not by bodies but by connections’.

Inspired by Augusto Boal’s exercises and games for actors and non-actors, participants are guided through various somatic exercises, including collective breathing and humming, clapping, following the movements of others, or walking at different speeds with eyes open or closed.

A responsive media environment translates the participants’ improvised movements into ever-changing worlds of light and sound. In this way, they can experience how individual and collective actions shape a shared space.

No prior experience of movement or the somatic arts is required. All activities are voluntary and suitable for people of all ages and abilities.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing and indicate at the time of registration if they have any specific accessibility requirements.

Following the workshop, participants are invited to the ‘Pause on Quantum Matter’ lounge and reading area (Ceija Stojka Foyer in the auditorium entrance hall) to continue exploring open questions and ideas relating to quantum acoustics.
