The ‘House of Cards’, featuring 126 illuminated cards, lights up the Centre at Potsdamer Platz
The illuminated house of cards, approximately 4.9 metres high and 10 metres long, consists of 126 individually designed cards. More than 40 international artists have designed the individual motifs, turning the installation into a collaborative work combining light, art and architecture.
With ‘House of Cards’, Gaston Zahr draws on the familiar childhood memory of building a house of cards and transposes it into the public space. The individual cards symbolise different personalities and perspectives, which only together form a stable whole.
After dark, the centre’s distinctive architecture and the reflections beneath the roof create a striking backdrop for the light installation in the heart of Berlin.
