Two storytellers find a strange figure in their kitchen: a very old man lying on the floor, covered in dirt, unable to move because of his enormous wings. The neighbour reckons he’s an angel. The priest disagrees: since the man doesn’t speak Latin, he must be an impostor.

The stranger, now housed in the henhouse, becomes the talk of the town and attracts a wave of pilgrims: some hope for healing, others just want to gawp. Yet they leave the village changed from how they arrived.

Dan Colley’s production harnesses the power of object theatre to tell Gabriel García Márquez’s short story using everyday objects and figures crafted from kitchen utensils. In her quest to capture the beauty of the text and its emotional richness, she creates a poetic space that raises fundamental questions about the human imagination.
