The sinking of the MS KARLSHORST
In 1967, the MS KARLSHORST was launched at the NEPTUN shipyard – one of six ice-strengthened cargo ships designed to transport timber from the Soviet Union to the GDR.
In keeping with their purpose, all the ships in this series were named after significant locations in the GDR’s furniture industry: HELLERAU, ZEULENRODA, THEMAR, OELSA, EISENBERG and, indeed, KARLSHORST.
