Hildegard Knef achieved great depth through simple words. Her humour and quick wit were legendary. She was perhaps the most interesting German artist. Ambitious and talented. A star.

Completely over the top and completely normal.

Her incredible successes occasionally catapulted her into a state of megalomania. Yet time and again, her Berlin humour brought her back down to earth. Far ahead of her time, she defied categorisation. When German cinema had no more roles for her, she simply reinvented the German chanson single-handedly in the 1960s. Magnificent songs. Timeless and multi-layered.

And that’s why Melanie Haupt and Jonathan Bratoeff believe: in this city, you have to sing. Just like so many of her other chansons. Guitarist Jonathan Bratoëff has arranged the music in a swing style and accompanies the singer.
