Every year, Josy spends the Christmas holidays at her Granny’s. It’s always been that way, for as long as she can remember. Mum and Dad are doctors and work just as much at Christmas as they do throughout the rest of the year. But Josy doesn’t mind. She loves being at Granny’s. They always do so much that she never gets bored. But somehow, it’s different this time.

A heavy cloud has settled over Josy, which seems to be making everything difficult for her. Nothing’s fun anymore. Things that used to cheer her up now just annoy her. Then she remembers the big old suitcase in the living room. Every year she asks her Granny what’s inside it. But Granny always says, ‘I’ll tell you when you’re older!’ But how much older does she have to be before she finally finds out? After all, she’s already 11!
Josy decides to find out for herself; one evening, she sneaks into the living room and opens the suitcase. What she finds inside not only opens up a whole new world to her, but also gradually lifts her gloom. It takes her back to a past and a life that seem so distant, and yet at the same time so close to her own.
