And most recently here in Hamburg: Otto Sander, almost 20 years ago. Now Christian Redl is taking on Beckett’s *Krapp*. A lost, exhausted and failed writer encounters his 39-year-old self in old, diary-like recordings and listens in disbelief to the story of his former life. And here, too, he encounters once more the love of his life – the turning point in his life.

Beckett’s classic is full of autobiographical allusions, which the future Nobel Prize winner artfully veiled in mystery.
Christian Redl has developed this evening’s programme in collaboration with Jim Rakete, one of the most significant contemporary photographers and documentary filmmakers, with whom he aims to develop a new perspective on Beckett’s great disillusioned figure.
