On the cycle of nature: Antonio Vivaldi’s concert cycle *The Four Seasons* musically depicts the cycle of the year – with chirping birds, rumbling thunderstorms, dancing peasants, merry hunting parties and clinking frost. The work, performed by the Berlin Baroque Soloists with Daishin Kashimoto, Principal Concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, as soloist, is one of the most popular compositions of the Baroque era. Yet Vivaldi’s contemporaries also created sparkling, rousing music, as demonstrated by the concerti grossi of Tartini, Telemann and Geminiani.
