New Research: Project Presentation and Discussion
Little is known about the link between football grounds and forced labour in Berlin. Research carried out by a project group of Hertha BSC supporters is providing new insights.
During the Second World War, football matches regularly drew thousands of people to Berlin’s stadiums, providing a distraction from the daily reality of the war. At the same time, the Nazis converted the capital’s stadiums and sports grounds into camps to house forced labourers. What did football fans see as they flocked to Hertha BSC’s popular stadium at Gesundbrunnen on match days?
