15 years of the Berlin Pub Choir

The Berlin Pub Choir has been touring the capital’s pubs for 15 years, boosting their takings – because when people sing along, they drink more lemonade. But the nearly 30 singers are also right at home on the big stages.

At Lollapalooza and the Feel Festival, they’re practically part of the furniture. They also perform regularly alongside well-known artists. Herbert Grönemeyer described them as ‘vocally outstanding’. And Aki Bosse thinks they’re ‘pretty good’ too. Praise could hardly sound more enthusiastic.

The Berlin Pub Choir has been around since 2011. A group of friends wanted to sing together and revive that German sense of cosiness. As nobody fancied a traditional choral repertoire, pop, indie, hip-hop and big sing-along anthems were on the programme right from the start. Today, the repertoire ranges from Billie Eilish to Peter Fox and Outkast, right through to The Killers, Die Ärzte and Münchener Freiheit. For many years now, Lilli Born has shaped the sound of the Berliner Kneipenchor as its musical director; her varied arrangements have become a hallmark of the group.

The choir’s concerts are now regarded as legendary. It is their love of music, the joy of performing, their relaxed atmosphere and the bond between the members that captivate every audience. This spirit will also be felt at the Festsaal Kreuzberg during the anniversary show – with a touch of nostalgia, but above all as a celebration of the here and now.
