With his late ‘Missa in B minor’, Bach achieved a brilliant synthesis of his artistic output. Exquisitely crafted arias and duets are set alongside impressive choral pieces.
At the heart of the work lies humanity, with its emotions ranging from suffering to hope and joy. Particularly in the concluding prayer for peace, ‘Dona nobis pacem’, Bach gives musical expression to a timeless longing for peace and hope. Performed on period instruments and conducted by Rudolf Lutz, the ‘Mass in B minor’ becomes a moving musical experience for the present day.
