This Wikipedia-themed cultural tour will present and discuss the digitisation project ‘East Berlin: Between New Construction and Reconstruction’ by the FHXB Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and Mitte Museum.
The focus will be on the numerous digitised photographs by the photographer Monika Uelze, which document the construction projects of the Berlin Housing Construction Combine in Friedrichshain and Mitte between 1975 and 1989. Amongst other things, the tour will highlight photographs of the Leipziger Straße housing complex and the reconstruction areas of Frankfurter Allee and Marchlewskistraße.
Afterwards, the event moves outdoors: during a photo walk, participants will explore Leipziger Straße and the Otto-Grotewohl quarter on Wilhelmstraße together, capturing them on camera.
On site, there will also be an opportunity to research background information on the construction projects and those involved in Friedrichshain for Wikipedia and edit the articles directly.
KulTour is an event format organised by Wikimedia Germany that explores cultural and knowledge hubs together and makes knowledge visible and accessible for Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.
