The urban art duo Various & Gould invite you to an art workshop entitled ‘Auf Kante’. The workshop will explore the themes of housing, rent, displacement and self-organisation.

The starting point for the content is both the squatting movements in Spandau in the 1980s and current issues surrounding gentrification, rising rents and the right to housing. Together, we will explore how the boundaries between private and public, security and insecurity, and withdrawal and political expression are shifting – then as now.

The workshop will address these themes through the medium of textile art. It will bring together techniques and forms of expression that are often considered separately: activism and handicrafts, graffiti and embroidery, protest and textile design. This will result in individual works that combine personal experiences, social issues and creative forms of expression.

Textile artist Anita Hodneland will provide technical support to participants, drawing on her expertise in handicraft techniques.

  • Selected works from the workshop will be presented from November onwards in the exhibition ‘Besetzt! Häuserkampf und Waldprotest in Spandau’ at the Zeughaus der Zitadelle.
