In October and November, two concerts will take place at the Luisenkirche in Charlottenburg as part of the “Orgel & Lyrik” concert series. The poets Kerstin Hensel and Nadja Küchenmeister will be guest performers.

The “Orgel & Lyrik” concert series brings organ music and contemporary poetry into an equal artistic dialogue at the Luisenkirche in Berlin-Charlottenburg.
In these concerts, award-winning Berlin poets will present their texts alongside classical and contemporary organ works. The music will be performed on the new Reil organ by Jack Day.
The artist, originally from Great Britain, studied organ and improvisation and has also served as cantor of the Luisenkirche since 2017. Thomas Wohlfahrt, founder and long-time director of the Haus für Poesie, curates the series.
Jack Day and Thomas Wohlfahrt explain the concept behind the concerts:
“The dramaturgy contrasts the sonic dimensions of organ playing with the emotional and semantic horizons of poetry in such a way that both art forms interact and engage with one another. Improvisations between the organ and poetry also give each concert its very own character.”
To date, performers in the concert series have included Ursula Krechel, Volker Braun, Kathrin Schmidt, Uljana Wolf, and Alexandru Bulucz.
Each concert is conceived as a self-contained artistic unit. What all events have in common is their focus on contemporary poetry, its performativity, and its resonance within the church space.
The dramaturgical design of the series deliberately takes into account the acoustic and spatial characteristics of the Luisenkirche as well as the sonic possibilities of the new Reil organ.

Admission to the concerts is 10.00 €, reduced rate 8.00 €.
