Moon Meat Lyrical

Over time, their forms merged to form the so-called “moon-meat radical” 月. A radical is a semantic or phonetic component used to form other characters. 月 can refer both to the body—as in 肌 (muscle) and 腸 (intestine)—and to the changing moonlight, as in 朗 (brightness) and 期 (period).

The combination of “moon” and “flesh” opens up a poetic connection between the planetary body and earthly flesh. In the misty, undulating moonlight, the soft, sentient bodies of human and non-human actors alike emerge as empathetic, cyclical, transformative, and imaginative.

As an offshoot of the discourse program L is for the Way You Look at Me, Moon Meat Lyrical collaborates with musicians Yara Mekawei and Amir Rezk and invites the audience to a nighttime listening session on the terrace. In a gathering under the moon—and, with a bit of luck, during a meteor shower—this evening brings together stories and readings about the moon, tidal waves, surging emotions, and cyclical bodies, all accompanied by music.
