Ein einzelner Tautropfen
Afife Jale broke new ground. In 1920, she became the first Muslim woman in the Ottoman Empire to take the stage, despite government and religious bans. Both celebrated and persecuted, she came under pressure from her family, the state, and society. Her love of theater became a solitary struggle for freedom.
The multi-award-winning Jale Arıkan takes on the role of Afife Jale. Selin İşcan directs. The renowned musician Yaşar Kurt plays Selahattin Pınar, Afife Jale’s great love and a composer of classical Turkish music.
On her final night, he appears as a voice, a memory, and a shadow. In 1941, Afife died at the age of 39 in a psychiatric hospital. Today, a major theater award bears her name.
A play about courage, loss, and the price of freedom.
- Director: Selin İşcan
