"Culture of Remembrance" series by and featuring Alexander Kulpok

"Better a wall than a war!" These reassuring yet conciliatory words from U.S. President John F. Kennedy were known to only a few in Washington in August 1961. In West Berlin, which had been reduced to a three-sector city, many were expecting and hoping for military intervention by the U.S.

In vain—the die had been cast, and the spheres of influence between the U.S. and the Soviet Union had been delineated. Eyewitness and TV journalist Alexander Kulpok recounts, with audio and video clips, those eventful days and years that changed Germany and the world.

Afterward, there will be an opportunity for a friendly get-together over a cold beer or other beverages and snacks.
