Anne Stern reads from *The White Night* at the German Historical Museum

At 11 p.m., the author will read from her latest crime novel, “Die weiße Nacht. Der erste Fall für Lou & König” (The White Night: The First Case for Lou & König), transporting museum guests to the ruins of Berlin in the winter of 1946: Young photographer Lou roams the city and discovers a woman’s body in the snow. Together with Inspector König, she investigates the case. A dark past awaits them.

From 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., the DHM invites visitors to a diverse Long Night program in the Pei Building: From guided tours of the current exhibitions “Nature and German History: Faith—Biology—Power” and “Objects. History. Stories. A Glimpse into the Collection” to Tape Art activities and the exploration of historic crime scenes—there’s something for everyone. Snacks and drinks invite you to take a break.

Searching for Clues in German History

In the Pei Building, museum visitors can set out on a quest through German history. Silhouettes of significant historical figures who fell victim to political murders or assassinations can be found at various locations. Who can recognize them and match them to the correct historical event? Prizes will be raffled off among all participants. The 45-minute guided tour “Crime Scenes of German History,” also held in the Pei Building, explores why figures such as Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary, Rosa Luxemburg, Hanns Martin Schleyer, and Walter Lübcke became targets of assassins. The tour places the perpetrators’ motives in their historical context.

“Tape Your Art” with Robert König and Stephan van Kuyk

At an interactive creative station, museum guests of all ages can create their own tape art designs under the guidance of tape art artists Robert König and Stephan van Kuyk from TAPE OVER, who also designed the “Searching for Traces in German History” exhibit. Whether inspired by the Long Night’s theme of “Crime,” the current exhibitions, or your own imagination—Tape your Art!

Guided Tours of the Current Exhibitions

In the exhibition “Nature and German History,” 30-minute guided tours in German and English offer insights into the themes of environmental destruction and nature conservation over the past 800 years. The topics range from the preservation of Lake Constance in the late Middle Ages to the plundering of nature in the German colonial empire, pollution of the Rhine in the 1960s, and the destruction of the landscape by mining. In 45-minute expert-led tours, curator Julia Voss and project manager Dorlis Blume provide insights into the exhibition. In “Objects. History. Stories.,” an expert-led tour with curator Wolfgang Cortjaens, as well as multilingual short tours, offer the opportunity to learn about the objects and their fascinating journeys into the DHM’s collection.

Discovery Tour Around the Zeughaus

Even the youngest guests will find something to enjoy: Under the title “Of Dragons and Crowns: Around the Zeughaus with Binoculars,” the museum invites children ages eight and up and families to a discovery tour around the oldest building on Unter den Linden.
