Tanztreffen der Jugend: Herzhaft romantisch

Production and Ensemble

*Heartily Romantic* was created as part of the annual inclusive dance festival “Neukölln tanzt!” under the theme “(E)motion.” It reflects the dancers’ individual life experiences.

We work with elements of contemporary dance and performative theater in both individual and collective processes. Our movement-oriented performances are developed collaboratively. As a result, they always incorporate biographical influences. The students perform as experts in their own right. Empowerment is a central concern for us. Cultural participation for EVERYONE.

The original music for the choreographies was composed and produced electronically by students in the graduating class of the Gustav-Meyer-Schule Special Education Center. In the final scene of our piece “Happy Together,” the composers also enrich the dance performance.

The intercultural dance ensemble “Neukölln 11” consists of 13 children and young people aged 8–18 with intellectual disabilities. The ensemble has existed since 2009 as part of a cross-class dance-theater club.

Since 2016, the group has been working in an inclusive dance and theater context. This has included collaborative projects with, among others, the Maxim Gorki Theater, TUSCH Berlin, and the Goethe-Institutes in Turin and Marseille.
