::: Motoya Kondo (Butoh dance)
Born in Nagoya, Japan, dancer, movement director, and co-founder of the Motimaru Dance Company. Since 2005, he has studied Butoh under Yoshito Ohno, the son of Kazuo Ohno, and has worked as his assistant.
Since 2010, he has been conducting field research on local and traditional dances in Japan, India, Nepal, Spain, and Bali, and has studied Balinese dance with Agun Anom Putra, I Made Djimat, and Ida Bagus Oka Wirjana, in search of the universal principle of movement and dance.
Since 2008, he has immersed himself in the practice and study of Eastern contemplative traditions, focusing in particular on Tibetan traditions and building a bridge between contemporary art practices and ancient wisdom. He has performed and taught at venues including the 2010 Venice Biennale, the 9th International Choreography Competition “No Ballet,” the 2016 Lucky Trimmer International Dance Festival, the University of Hildesheim, the University of Leipzig, Hasselt University, the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, and others, as well as in over 50 cities across Europe, Asia, and Australia.
