Decollage 3 has its origins in the New Improvisers Ensemble—the collective’s only active ensemble. Originally founded in memory of Don Cherry, a mentor to Ignaz Schick, they performed pieces by Don Cherry and artists associated with him. (CD *Lonely Woman*).
They developed the foundations for their current style through structured compositions by Ignaz Schick, which helped them find their own unique approach to improvisation. Today, they play freely, blending their experiences from contemporary music, jazz, and European abstract music.
