Guided Tours Offered by VHS City-West

The tour following in Luise’s footsteps leads to two locations in the palace gardens that commemorate the queen, who died at a young age, in different ways: the mausoleum with its impressive funerary monument, and Luise Island, featuring the queen’s bust and other sculptures.

The grieving king had the mausoleum built following the queen’s sudden death on July 19, 1810. Initially, the interior housed only the queen’s tomb, created by Christian Daniel Rauch from Carrara marble—a masterpiece of 19th-century German sculpture.

On Luisen Island, the king seemed to have a different intention: here, surrounded by nature and the eternal cycle of the seasons, his beloved wife was to be remembered.
